Abstract

The article reviews retrospective memories of middle-aged Muscovites (40-54 years old) describing the features of two types of families: first, the family of origin/parental family (its quantitative structure and social-psychological parameters); second, their own families at different stages of development (from pre-marriage stage to separation of children – ―empty nest stage‖). The study also reports deviations from linear consequence of life cycles within their families (refusal to marry, divorce, widowhood, remarriage). The study was made using the method of biographical survey.
