Abstract

The article highlights the basic results of the study conducted by VCIOM in European countries (Germany, Latvia, Moldavia, Ukraine) commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in 2008. The study portrays a typical compatriot residing in European countries and considers the main features of the social adaptation of compatriots to living abroad.

The authors state that the level of interest in returning to Russia is dependent on the social adaptation of compatriots to living in the country of their residence. Most interested in getting back to Russia are those compatriots who are not satisfied with their level of well-being.
