Procedural sociology about civilizational problems

Abstract

The article is devoted to such pressing issues as civilization processes, decivilization and the degree of monopolization of violence as the most important criterion. The study is based on a comparative analysis of the works of N. Elias, S. Mennel, P. Gleichman and Z. Bauman. The author pays attention to the main component of the civilization approach: the need for redistribution of violence due to the fact that the monopoly on violence is an inalienable and fundamental right of the state. Analysis and comparison of the views of the above-mentioned researchers suggest that by striving for unification and depersonalization the state in the modern era contributes to the formation of a person not as a separate person in society but as a “carrier of roles” distancing from emotions. Civilization standards of attitudes towards physical violence are contradictory and non-linear. The results of the study help to identify an "insoluble problem" of civilization consisting in the erosion of the monopoly on violence and the growth of moral indifference in the era of modernity.
