Abstract

The paper is based on a survey conducted in Belgorod region using representative sample and provides an analysis of barriers that impede the functioning of social networks as well as their classification. These barriers may be engaged or not engaged in public self-reflection; they may be objective and subjective, common and specific. They are determined by territory, age, economic limits, to a lesser extent, by education and gender. The study shows that social networks based on relations with friends and kindred ties are more intense; professional and business networks are less strong; community and religious social networks are active occasionally. Elderly persons, residents of cities with population less than 100000 and urban-type settlements, persons with secondary vocational and incomplete secondary education, persons who have low income are those categories which have difficulties initiating and maintaining social network practices. The paper proposes ways to overcome social interaction barriers.
