Abstract

The article describes the informative content of sociological ratings of the popularity of public persons and the meaning of this research tool as a way to record data on the processes of self-organization and restructuration of society in certain circumstances.

The author proves his statements by using the facts from Russian social and political reality referring to manifestation of anti-Semitism and xenophobia in political behavior of Russian voters. The author provides different explanations of the changes in ratings of popularity.
