Ilya Shteinberg, a well-known Russian field researcher and methodologist, a student of Theodor Shanin, is familiar to many for his work “Qualitative Methods in Field Sociological Studies” (published in 1999 and republished in 2009). In the new book, he summarizes his many years of experience in teaching practical skills in conducting field sociological research which is based on the “long table” method developed in the early 1990s within projects carried out under the leadership of Theodor Shanin. Working at this “table”, the participants develop and adjust the research strategy, discuss and interpret the revealed facts.
The Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) is pleased to present this original work to anyone interested in the theory and practice of qualitative research. The book will be released in December 2021 but for now we are publishing the first chapter of it on the pages of our journal.
