Abstract

The article deals with the problem of modernization of Russian education system. The authors focus on the role of the modern school teachers involved in the changing value, legal, technological educational space. The authors conducted a study aimed at identifying the level of professional readiness of school teachers to implement innovative pedagogical activities in a new school. The study was conducted by questionnaire survey of teachers of secondary schools in the Republic of Karelia. The data revealed that the level of professional readiness of teachers to work in the modern environment is rather low. To get more detailed information, an extra research involving teachers from different areas of the Republic of Karelia was conducted. The results confirmed the existence of problems relating to professional competence of secondary school teachers.
