The article presents the results of the methodological analysis of the interview break-offs of the computer-based telephone survey titled “Monitoring of salaries, poverty and social inequality”. The research tasks were to define the types and to reveal the reasons of the interview breakoffs. Based on the analysis of the audio recording and comparisons between conversations in business hours and out of hours, the two basic reasons (temporal and thematic) as well as their combination were revealed. The author describes the key factors that influence the success of an interview: attitudes toward surveys, respondent`s moodand place of the survey. According to the author`s conclusions, the interview break-off may be a source of information about the survey instrument quality as well as an indicator of the success (failure) of the communication. Based on the indicators of the interview break-offs, a number of measures were proposed to improve the work of the interviewers; prospects for the use of the computer-based telephone survey were also shaped.Downloads
