Subjective well-being of university teacher in society, in profession and in university

The article presents an analysis of the subjective well-being of Russian university teachers. The analysis is based on the data collected from questionnaires and interviews. The study is focused on the value-semantic side of the professional activity of the university teacher, positive and negative effects arising from the modernization of higher education; institutional factors that deteriorate subjective well-being of university teachers caused by the bureaucratic pressure and hyper-regulation are also presented in the article. The results of two survey waves with a three-year interval are used to describe the satisfaction of the university teachers with their status and profession. The authors point out the need to increase the stability of professional environment, to change the national universities’ personnel policies, to create the conditions to improve the university teachers’ status and professional perspectives.Downloads
