Threats to social justice in the Russian health service

Abstract

The focus of the article is social problems that the Russian healthcare system is facing today. The current state of the health service system is considered in relation to the financing and the effectiveness of the proposed medical services, medical personnel, public trust in the health care institution, Russian views regarding their health as well as the transformation of the doctor-patient relationship. The article provides health system assessment by mass media shaping public opinion; the monitoring of medical services and statistical data helping to evaluate the accessibility and the quality of the services is carried out. The authors give assessment of particular government modernization projects. The results of the authors’ study titled “Paid and free medical services: pro et contra” highlighting the factors that influence the choice of medical services are presented in the article. Social justice principles applied in the health system as well as threats are singed out.
