IDENTIFICATION PORTRAITS OF RUSSIANS (ON THE ISSP AND LEVADA-CENTER DATA)

Abstract

The paper is based on the results of the third wave of the International Social Survey Program devoted to national identity and on the results of representative all-Russia Levada-Center polls. The author considers the Russian people’s civic and ethno-cultural representations of Russia as a nation state. The factor analysis reveals two basic parameters of national identity (civic and ethnic) that allows identifying four groups. Special attention was given to religious and age-related identification as well as immigrant and patriotic settings of Russians depending on the basis of national identification.
