Abstract

The author attempts to describe reproductive behavior through interactions of its components; this allows identifying the elements of reproductive settings. The basic components of reproductive behavior are shaped by empirical indicators obtained through the author’s research supplemented by the secondary data of the Russian surveys. Amidst increasing fertility rates and decreasing mortality rates across the country, Moscow has been one of few regions with stable population growth rate. Muscovite reproductive settings and the desired number of children correspond to the expected effect. Moreover, if the prenatal policies and efforts to support young families are sustained, a further growth in fertility rates may be expected.
