Various interpretations of stable and high-quality marriage (family) in the Russian sociological tradition are considered in the article. The results of two cross-sectional soviet studies devoted to the correlation between spousal satisfaction with the marriage and its duration are described. The author points out the restrictions of this research strategy. The article provides a review of the content of two foreign articles based on longitudinal strategy (meta-analytic review and nation-wide survey about the changes of stability/quality of marriage depending on its duration). The author singles out the main features of both articles (with an emphasis on the life course/life-span development of personality) which can be used by Russian researchers (sociologists, psychologists) and students.Downloads
