The paper presents reflections on the new book of the famous Western sociologist Joseph Soeters «Sociology and Military Studies», which analyzes the possibilities of sociology to understand the structure, functioning, and effectiveness of modern armed forces in the prevention and resolution of military conflicts. Scientific ideas, theories, conclusions, and observations of the classics, who made the most significant contribution to the study of military problems, serve as the basic bases for the analysis. The author defines promising directions for the further development of military studies and raises the question of finding new paradigms in the field of military sociological research, contributing to a more detailed study of the operational side of the armed forces that could take into account the interests of all parties involved in a military conflict.
