Abstract

The article considers the cumulative effect of publications in Russian scientific journals devoted to sociology and political science; the effect lies in systematization of the existing knowledge and forming a new one. As a scientific information consumer, the author investigates the factors that shape the demand for scientific publications and tasks they are targeted at. A number of indicators were assessed by use of a special sample based on publications from four Russian journals dedicated to social sciences presented in e-library. For further analysis of how politologists perceive the works of their colleagues the author uses available scientometrical indicators and several characteristics which are hard to calculate in a traditional way and which can be assessed using the statistical methods and analyzing the titles of the texts. After the data processing unobvious conclusions were drawn. The author describes such peculiarities of publications as individual authorship, low intensiveness of scientific discussion, representation instead of accumulation, high affiliation with particular universities, high role of the permanent authors, network isolation that opposes the a priori concept of a small world. All these trends decrease the competitiveness of the printed scientific publications compared to the internet resources, despite the fact that the latter have many limitations.
