Abstract

Based on the alternative macroeconomic assessments the article considers the development of the Russian economy in the post-Soviet period. According to the author`s forecast, the 2013-2014 economic crisis will be long and will have dramatic social and political consequences if economic policies remain unchanged. The moderate liberal alternative of the trace of Russian history, the modernization of the Russian society, its strong and weak points are analyzed in the article. Searching for the possible way out of the situation the author refers to the ideas stated by the Russian macrosociologist Nikolay Rozov in his book “Track and Pass: Macrosociological Foundations of Russia's Strategies in XIX century”. N. Rozov proposes an exquisite and more realistic way of transition towards democratic and modernized society based on the global practices of democratization and modernization, historic specifics of Russia and Russian mentality. At the same time, the author concludes that this alternative is hardly possible in a historical perspective.
