During the past two years, with more projected, the world community has been seriously
affected by the COVID-19 pandemic on multiple fronts. Understanding the serious
impact of the COVID-19 on the society is a formidable challenge; and, studying the long
term impact of the pandemic on key education and social institutions and groups is very
important.
Higher education, as a social institution, has undergone significant changes during the
past two years. Particularly, the pandemic has affected the learning process including the
physical, psychological, and emotional health and well-being of students, faculty
members, and other university personnel.
This special issue “Higher Education in a Pandemic: Psychological, Emotional and Social
Implications” aims to address key aspects of university life and living conditions around
the world during the COVID-19 pandemic, from the point of view of students and faculty
members.
Attention will be given to key factors linked to COVID-19 fear, stress, emotional burnout,
resilience, and harmful behavior. Also, the negative impacts of COVID-19 in a cross-country perspective including geopolitical and social factors will be examined.
Authors are invited to submit abstracts of up to 400 words, for the possible full article
preparation, review, and publication in the special issue. Among the issues of interest are
(but not limited to) the following:
• The challenges and implications of the COVID-19 pandemic for the global
higher education system.
• COVID-19 impact on “help professions” (medicine, nursing, psychology and
social work) students, faculty members, and health/mental health support
personnel.
• COVID 19 coping strategies and methods promoting resilience.
• COVID-19 impact based on personal background characteristics including
special needs, foreign status, single mothers, care responsibilities of older
parents and other key factors.
• COVID 19 impact on health, mental health, and other behavior conditions
including fear, stress, substance misuse, burnout, loneliness, eating behavior
and suicide ideation.
• Religious affiliation and religiosity as a protective factor during a pandemic.
Key dates:
Acceptance of applications: until March 1, 2022
Selection of applications by invited editors: until April 14, 2022
Ready-made texts (drawn up in accordance with the guidelines for authors, with a volume
of 40,000 characters) for approved applications should be received by the editors by June
1, 2022
