Abstract

The article describes an attempt to organize the first all-Russian representative social survey among the Roma. The Roma ethnic group closeness impedes data collection and conditions the need in mixing the methods during the data collection and interpretation. In particular, the paper explains how ‘additional’ data (photo and interviewers’ explanatory field notes) allow explaining apparent logical incompatibilities and considering in-group everyday-life representations and norms of interactions.
