IDENTIFICATION PORTRAITS OF RUSSIANS (ON THE ISSP AND LEVADA-CENTER DATA)

AbstractThe paper is based on the results of the third wave of the International Social Survey Program devoted to national identity and on the results of representative all-Russia Levada-Center polls. The author considers the Russian people’s civic and ethno-cultural representations of Russia as a nation state. The factor analysis reveals two basic parameters of national identity (civic and ethnic) that allows identifying four groups. Special attention was given to religious and age-related identification as well as immigrant and patriotic settings of Russians depending on the basis of national identification.
